What is FULL-MAP?

FULL-MAP is centred around the development of an autonomous “self-driving” laboratory, capable of synthesising, analysing, and optimising battery materials in a fully automated workflow.

By leveraging AI-driven insights and automation, FULL-MAP will:

  • Accelerate battery material discovery through advanced computational modelling
  • Eliminate inefficiencies in synthesis, testing, and validation
  • Enable fully automated workflows from material formulation to cell assembly

This initiative will drastically reduce development time and costs, fast-tracking the commercialisation of next-generation battery technologies.

Cellerate’s Role in FULL-MAP

Cellerate is providing ready-made automation solutions that complete the FULL-MAP workflow by bridging materials development and battery cell validation.

The Cell Assembly & Sealing System

Our Cell Assembly & Sealing System (CASS) is already used in labs worldwide to automate coin cell and single-layer pouch cell production. In FULL-MAP, CASS will be integrated directly with the AI-driven materials development pipeline, ensuring that new battery materials can be assembled into cells and tested with zero manual intervention.

  • Scalable to build over 100 cells per operation, completely unattended
  • Reduce cell assembly time by up to 95%
  • Seal coin cells, Protocells or pouches with the same unit
  • Multiple vial system prevents cross-contamination

Protocell

Protocell

As part of the project, Cellerate is supplying partners with Protocell upgraded CASS. Protocells offers researchers greater flexibility in electrolyte experimentation, with key advantages including:

  • Reference electrode integration for deeper electrochemical insights
  • Precise pressure control during cycling for more accurate performance evaluation
  • Rapid disassembly for post-mortem analysis of degradation mechanisms

Why FULL-MAP Matters

The impact of FULL-MAP extends beyond research labs, this initiative has the potential to revolutionise the battery industry by unlocking safer, longer-lasting, and more sustainable energy storage solutions.

 FULL-MAP will directly contribute to:

  • Reducing the carbon footprint of battery production
  • Enhancing the performance and longevity of next-generation batteries
  • Strengthening Europe’s leadership in clean energy technology

As the battery sector continues to evolve, FULL-MAP is setting new standards for innovation, efficiency, and sustainability.

As FULL-MAP progresses, we look forward to working alongside leading researchers, institutions, and technology partners across Europe to push the boundaries of battery innovation.

Stay tuned for updates as we redefine the future of energy storage. One automated breakthrough at a time.
